the type of stones I use
Preferably I work with stone varieties of average hardness like serpentine and alabaster.
Serpentine comes from Zimbabwe, and is presently scarcely available. Most frequently it is green with an orange rough surface. The darker, the harder. The hardest type is black springstone. Serpentine sculptures can be put outdoors, certainly the darker types.
White alabaster sculptures become beautifully transparent when the light shines through. Alabaster also exists in untransparent blue, pink, brown or black. These are sculptures to be kept indoors.
Soapstone sculptures come in all kinds of beautiful colors. They are actually sculptures for indoors. The black one is the hardest and can be put outdoors in the summer with a good impregnation.
